Javier Trujillo was born in Lima, Peru, where he studied Classical Guitar at the Conservatorio de Música de Lima. He later continued his musical studies at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on Musicology.

He has participated in festivals throughout the United States, Europe and Peru as both a performer and educator, sharing the rich tradition and importance of the Latin American guitar. He has also worked for many years as an educator and musician with the AIM Music Program of the San Francisco Symphony.

As a performer with various bands and ensembles throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Javier has developed a deep connection to Afro-Peruvian guitar traditions, exploring the distinctive rhythms, techniques, and musical heritage of his native country.
